With the very swift departure of Autumn and the equally swift arrival of the Winter chills, most of us will be digging out the winter woolies from the back of the wardrobe or storage closet. Having learned my lesson over the last couple of Winters, I now make sure that my winter clothes carry the label 'Thermal' for good measure.
I'm not quite sure if the doom merchants are correct about climate change or whether it's just that I'm getting old and feel the cold more, but for me thermal equals warm.
Again, it might just be a sign of my age but I'm afraid I don't make apologies these days for wanting to be comfortable and on a cold Winters day, that means warm.
And maybe I'm a little too vain for my own good, but I don't just want to be warm, I still want to look good. I'm not overly fond of the 'Scott of the Arctic' look especially if I'm only going to the local shop, so I suppose I'm talking about style as well as function as opposed to style over function and you may be surprised to find that there is such a thing as warm Winter or thermal clothing that also looks attractive.
There was a time (and it's not that long ago) that thermal clothing could only be found in outdoor or field and trek stores where if the mood took you, you could also stock up on snow mobile accessories and emergency flares. These days however, almost every fashion store (where even young people shop!) has a respectable range of funky thermal clothing on offer and the good news is that they look good also, because along with the advances in thermal clothing technology, thankfully there have also been advances in design.
For once, the fashion retailers who hijacked the 'Funky Clothing' description for clothes that were wild and garish have hit the target with 'Funky Thermal Clothing' so that it's now possible to be very comfortable and fashionable when you step outside this Winter, without any fashion and style sacrifices.
